Maryland provides grants of up to $75,000 for urban farms and community gardens to install water and power infrastructure.
About this program
The Maryland Department of Agriculture's Urban Agriculture Water and Power Infrastructure Grants help urban farms and community gardens purchase and install water and electricity infrastructure needed to sustain operations. Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis while funds remain available. Eligible expenses include water meters, water pipes, irrigation hoses, electric meters, electrical lines, and other authorized equipment, and grants may cover up to 87.5% of total project cost with a maximum award of $75,000.
Eligibility
Urban farms and community gardens located in eligible urban areas or incorporated Maryland municipalities that produce farm products generating at least $1,000 in annual sales or donations and control the land for at least five years.
Requirements
- Applicant must produce a farm product generating at least $1,000 in sales or donations annually.
- Operation must be located in an eligible urban area or incorporated municipality recognized by Maryland.
- Applicant must control the land for at least five years through ownership or lease.
