Historic Preservation Tax Credit — Restaurant in Historic Building
State tax credits for rehabilitation of certified historic Iowa buildings, including restaurants and cafes occupying or rehabilitating historic commercial spaces. Up to $45M available per year; 85% of credit is refundable in 2025. Small projects accepted year-round.

Eligibility
Individuals, LLCs, nonprofits, and other entities rehabilitating certified historic structures in Iowa, including restaurant operators and developers of food service spaces in historic buildings.
Requirements
- Property must be a certified historic structure
- Rehabilitation must meet SHPO and IEDA standards
- Annual application window; small projects accepted year-round
