About this program
The Small Business Improvement Fund (SBIF) reimburses eligible commercial and industrial property owners or tenants for a portion of permanent improvements to buildings located in active Chicago Tax Increment Financing districts. Eligible work can include storefront renovation, roofs, windows, doors, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, masonry, and accessibility improvements, with applications accepted only when a district is open for a monthly intake period.
Eligibility
For-profit businesses, commercial property owners, industrial property owners, and some nonprofit businesses located in an eligible Chicago TIF district with an open SBIF application period may apply.
Requirements
- Project must be located in a Chicago TIF district with an open SBIF application period.
- Applicant must be a property owner or tenant with owner consent.
- Improvements must be permanent building improvements, not routine maintenance or movable equipment.
