NEH Preservation Assistance Grants for Smaller Institutions
Helps small and mid-sized institutions improve their ability to preserve and care for humanities collections including books, manuscripts, photographs, archival materials, art, objects, and audiovisual materials. Supports preservation assessments, environmental monitoring, emergency planning, training, and policy development.

Up to $10,000 generally, with $15,000 limit for institutions outside contiguous U.S. May 1, 2026 target date confirmed. Total program funding approximately $550,000 across 55 expected awards.
Eligibility
501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations, public institutions of higher education, and state institutions of higher education with smaller budgets. Program encourages applications from institutions that have never received an NEH grant.
