About this program

The Idle Sites Redevelopment Program provides grants of up to $250,000 to Wisconsin communities to implement redevelopment plans for large commercial, industrial, or institutional sites that have been idle, abandoned, or underutilized for at least two years. Funds may support building rehabilitation or demolition, environmental remediation, and infrastructure improvements needed to advance redevelopment.

Eligible applicants include Wisconsin cities, villages, towns, counties, Tribal entities, and governmental entities with eligible idle industrial, commercial, or institutional sites.

Requirements

  • Site must be idle, abandoned, or underutilized for at least two years.
  • Industrial or commercial sites generally must exceed four acres, with lower acreage thresholds for some distressed communities or Opportunity Zones.
  • Project must address site conditions that impede redevelopment.
